Choosing The Right Siding

Choosing a type of siding for your home can be a difficult decision. There are a variety of things to consider, such as the style of your home, the neighborhood you live in and the cost associated with each type of siding. Some of the most popular types of siding include vinyl siding, cement board, stucco, brick and stone.

Vinyl is possibly the most popular choice among both home builders and those who are updating. Vinyl is fairly inexpensive, requires minimal maintenance, comes in a wide variety of colors, never has to be painted and will last for many years. While it used to be considered a cheap material that was easily damaged by the elements, the quality of vinyl siding has improved drastically over the last several years and most vinyl is now high quality.

Cement board siding comes in large planks that are fastened to the wall using nails or screws. It comes pre-primed but requires painting after installation. This gives the homeowner a wider selection of color than some other siding options, but does require a little more work.

Stucco is a popular option today, especially for homeowners who are trying to update the look of an older home. Stucco can be easily added to the outside of almost any home, looks nice, and requires little maintenance if it is installed properly. There are a variety of colors to choose from, but the selection is limited.

Brick and stone are the classic options for home exteriors. They look nice, require little maintenance, and last forever when installed properly. Unfortunately, both options are fairly expensive and the installation is very labor intensive.

Choosing the right type of siding for your home is really a matter of personal taste and budget. Whether you opt for vinyl siding, cement board, stucco, brick or stone, the most important thing is that you are happy with the selection you make.
